The Content Questions You Should Be Asking Before You Publish

  02/10/2026

You don’t need a perfect content plan to be consistent. But if you’re going to take the time to publish something, it’s worth asking a few quick questions before you do. These little check-ins can help your content feel clearer, more helpful, and more you.

Who am I really talking to?
Try to picture one person who needs to hear this. Maybe it’s someone just discovering your brand, a longtime follower, or someone stuck on the fence about working with you. When you focus your message on one person’s situation, the content becomes more personal, and people can tell.

Does this help in some way?
Your post doesn’t have to be life-changing. But it should give something. A quick tip, a reminder, a dose of encouragement, a how-to that saves time. If someone reads or watches this, will they feel a little more supported, inspired, or clear than they did before?

Is it leading anywhere?
Sometimes, the only goal is connection. Other times, you want someone to click, reply, buy, or join your list. Either way is fine, just don’t leave people hanging. Give them a next step, even if it’s small.

Does it sound like me?
One of the fastest ways to lose trust is by sounding like everyone else. You don’t need fancy phrases or marketing buzzwords. Just write like you speak. If you read your content out loud, would you actually say it that way? If not, rewrite it until it feels natural.

Is it clear?
This one is easy to overlook. But sometimes, a second read-through is all it takes to spot where your message might be getting lost. Cut extra fluff. Focus on one takeaway. People are busy, and clarity is kindness.

Content that connects doesn’t need to be complex. It just needs to be thoughtful. A few moments of reflection before you hit publish can turn a “meh” post into something meaningful. And your audience will feel the difference.
