How to Write a Better About Page

  04/27/2021

One of the most clicked pages on a website is the About page. People want to understand what you do and why to better connect with you. Today, we'll walk you through writing a compelling brand bio.

Start With a Photo of You

We know, it may make you cringe to sit there and have your photo taken up-close. But a picture of you, smiling and making eye contact with the camera, is welcoming to visitors. This makes you appear approachable, like a trusted friend!

Share a Story

  • About your client work
  • Why you love what you do
  • How [blank] came to be your career
  • About your industry success

This is an opportunity to humblebrag and provide context for your work. Furthermore, it allows people to connect with you through stories.

End With Something Unique About You

  • What do you like?
  • What are your hobbies or interests?
  • Who or what inspired your business name?

We once looked for a designer and after checking numerous profiles, we forgot about the specialties. Instead, we remembered the unique details about our top picks. Then, we referenced these attributes during our discussion — "Oh, James, he likes German Shepherds and seems like a good fit.” The point is this: sharing a personal fact creates a connection beyond what you do and makes you memorable.

In general, be intentional with your paragraph, headline and photo. This creates a compelling bio that tells readers who you are, who you serve and what you do.
